Events
The 13th Annual Knowlton Literary Festival was far from unlucky. The 2023 event, held October 12-14th at the Community Centre was a great success. Leading up to the Festival weekend was the Local Authors event, Thursday evening at Brome Lake Books, with 60 in attendance. Earlier in the day, 130 students assembled at Knowlton Academy’ s writer’s presentation, while 500 students gathered at Massey Vanier. The weekend sessions over Friday evening and Saturday, attracted 310 people.
New Directions/Initiatives
The Writer’s Workshop was held separately from the main festival, allowing its 22 participants free to attend the full range of the Festival’s weekend events.
A ‘cabaret’ format was established for the Friday evening presentation. It was well- received. The Festival attracted more young people, in large part due to the diversity of the guest authors. New volunteers were recruited. The Board of Directors tried, without success, to contract a paid coordinator for the Festival operations. Not deterred, the organizers formulated a more stream-lined Festival without compromising its quality.
Board Members and Volunteers
Once again, the Festival volunteers excelled themselves. The hard work and dedication of both the Board and volunteer team must be congratulated.
Community Support
KLA appreciates the support from The Townshippers Foundation, The MRC, the Town of Brome Lake and ELAN. Thanks also to The Lions Club and all the private donors who contributed to the Festival.
A Special Recognition
Without its Honourary Patron, Louise Penny, the Festival would not be where it is today. Louise has supported the event in every way and for that, the Board is truly grateful.
